New Trend: A "Save the Date" on YouTube

Whoa. 2 months. Who missed me?

I don't know Jeff and Erin, but wow...I wish I did! Check out this "save the date" for their wedding.

Silly Stuff on Amazon

Laptop Steering Wheel Desk - This is not an item I would consider, but David Pogue's tweet about it led me to check it out. The comments and user uploaded pictures...brilliant! I can only imagine that the manufacturer might be annoyed, though.

Sample comments:
"This has been a total lifesaver. It allows me to prop my sheet music against the wheel, allowing me to play the guitar with both hands while driving." by Brent

"The product description is incomplete. This doesn't need to just be used for laptops! I use it to chop vegetables, play solitaire, and roll dough for delicious croissants (at stoplights of course, I'm not dumb!). This is an amazing time saver for busy urbanites on the go." by Dan

Around the Internet

Cheese or Font and Ice Cream or Paint - Some fun, if silly, quizzes.

Marshall's Stiletto Car - I saw this "car" driving around Santa Monica. MetaBoy didn't see it, and he didn't believe I saw a shoe drive by. How do you convince a 3 year old of something ridiculous when he's making up ridiculous stories every day?

Expense A Steak - A shady website where you type in the amount of an expense that you need legitimate receipts for, and you get a PDF of receipts laid out in that exact amount. Don't tell the IRS about this one ;-)

Twirling on Her Toes, Giving Orders - A funny article in the NY Times about a couple who didn't anticipate how their lives would change when 2 of their 3 kids went off to college.

Gov. Schwarzenegger's cute breakfast - I'm guessing he didn't make the smiley face. He doesn't seem like the smiley face making sort of guy.

What To Do When Riding a Dead Horse

I was reading this Yahoo article on the World's Strangest Monuments. I was terribly annoyed that there wasn't an accompanying photo of each monument. An interesting idea poorly executed.

I went off to find a few pictures online to satiate my curiosity. What's the internet good for if not satiating curiosity? In my search, I found a funny list of what to do if you find you're riding a dead horse, like Saint Wenceslas, whose statue is doing just that in Prague.

These over-groomed poodles really made my day.

Poor poodles :-(

Top Chef's Tom Colicchio's Commercial

I'm an avid Top Chef watcher, so even though he's kind of selling out, I got a kick out of this commercial

Movie: Julie & Julia

Oh, I have to see this movie. Per the trailer, it's about Julia Child and a woman named Julie, both of whom are searching for themselves at different points in time. Julia goes to cooking school, and Julie goes to cookbook school (she cooks from Julia's books).

The actress playing Julia Child: Meryl Streep. And she just NAILED IT!!

Due in August 2009.

Southwest Elevator Commercial

I love this Southwest commercial. You know you want to be this person sometimes. You know you do. I do. And I know MetaDaddy does. Though if you ask him, he'll deny it ;-)

I'm just saying.

Around the Internet: Food

Sweet Sue Whole Chicken in a Can - Ew, ew, ew.

Farmers fear pigs may get "swine" flu from people - Counterintuitive. Interesting.

Food maven Ruth Reichl: 'I'm starving!' - Our book club just finished Ruth Reichl's "Garlic and Sapphires." We all liked it as it was a fun, easy read. Her antics were a hoot! Ruth's new book, "Not Becoming My Mother: And Other Things She Taught Me Along the Way," has pushed her back into the spotlight a lot these days. Her current position as the editor-in-chief of the precariously positioned Gourmet magazine only reinforces her need to stay visible.

Ruth Goes Undercover - Mickey Rourke, Amy Winehouse, and Gene Simmons. Silly. All for the love of foodies ;-)

And to round it off...

Ruth Reichl Rips Into Lobsters, Gets Her Dumplings to Go - Ruth eats were way from LA to NYC over the course of a week. Well, it's more like she details all of her meals over the course of a week when she happens to be in both cities. She leads a fun life!

Nursing from the Other Side

MetaMommy only knows it from this side of the fence. There is no way I would have been able to capture the male sentiment as succinctly as Greg at Daddytypes has.

Programming Mystery

Perhaps the geekiest cartoon ever. So geeky that I don't understand it, though I somehow "get" it.

Nerds rejoice.

Riverdancing Monkeys

I don't like Arby's, but I like this ad. Why? I don't know. Perhaps it's the Riverdancing monkeys?

Who doesn't like a good Riverdance?

Homemade Cat Toys

If you're a cat person, you might appreciate this like you appreciate the cat in Shrek 2 and 3 (though #2 was better). If you're not a cat person, well...that's something you should really assess with your therapist.

Anywho, it made me laugh. And Zach Scott, the director, is a total cat person. Like you know, totally! (say it like a Valley Girl...it works better.)

A side of cute: This makes it all better.

The Landlord

I'm sure everyone's seen this by now, but if you haven't...it's....it's...it's different.

The Landlord starring Will Ferrell and the toddler.

Pet Gear

So, you feel like shopping but can't figure out what to buy? Oh, if only someone would manufacture something completely senseless and ridiculous.

What, you say? Someone has?

Oh my. I'd love to see this guy in action. And for only $17.95, it's a bargain at twice the price!!

Baby Boogie

I have a strange habit of creating new nicknames for no particular reason. My cat had dozens of them. And now, I'm calling our son all sorts of strange pet names (e.g., bear, monkey, poopy pants). He answers to his real name (when he's not too busy), so my habit hasn't slowed his progress in any particular way. His most recent name is Boogie. I'm not sure if it's because he likes to boogie when the music's on or if it's because it seems he always has a boogie on his face. Either way, it feels cute, so it stuck. For me, not my husband. He thinks I'm nuts. It probably doesn't help that I've started calling him BoogieDaddy.

In keeping with character, Boogie's most recent trick is to stick his finger up his nose. Sometimes I hear him while he's whining and think "he sounds muffled." He does...because there's a finger in his nose.

This is going to be fun.
